Today is the 21st May 2011 and this is F1Minute.

Mark Webber stopped Sebastian Vettel’s qualifying domination today by pipping his teammate to the top spot in Spain. The Red Bull pair were still almost eight tenths faster than next place Lewis Hamilton, though.

Qualifying began with the news that Nick Heidfeld wouldn’t be able to participate. The Renault driver had come to a halt in Free Practice 3 earlier in the day with the car on fire. Heidfeld hopped out of the car safely, but the damage was too great for the mechanics to fix in time.

Heikki Kovalainen got his Lotus out of Q1, and outqualified both Force India cars to start tomorrow in 15th. But Kovi used an extra set of soft tyres, whilst Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil chose to save a set for the race.

Michael Schumacher made it through to the top ten, and although he went out on hard tyres, he did not set a time. Pastor Maldonado also qualified in the top ten, whilst teammate Rubens Barrichello suffered gearbox troubles that meant he couldn’t qualify higher than 19th.
