You’re listening to F1Minute - Mark Webber takes pole position for the British Grand Prix.
Saturday at Silverstone was damp with on and off showers, but nowhere near the type of rain the track saw yesterday. In the first qualifying session, there were two big name drivers in the drop zone, with both Toro Rosso cars unable to progress to Q2. That allowed Heikki Kovalainen to move into the second session of qualifying once again.
In Q2, Renault struggled more than anticipated, taking 14th and 16th place. Michael Schumacher was the other surprise, as his teammate got through to the final ten, whilst he only qualified 13th.
The final session saw one real attempt at a fast lap, with any plans for a second run halted by an incoming shower. Mark Webber took pole position, with Vettel three hundredths of a second behind him. The German believes he could have improved if he’d had the chance at another run, but either way Red Bull secure the front row of the grid. Behind them two Ferraris, then Jenson Button. Two strong performances from Paul di Resta in 6th and Pastor Maldonado 7th, whilst Lewis Hamilton struggled to only finish 10th.
