Welcome to F1Minute for the 20th May 2011.
Free Practice Friday in Spain, and Mark Webber led both sessions comfortably. Free Practice 1 was bright and sunny, with Webber setting a time early on, and maintaining his lead throughout. Teammate Sebastian Vettel finished the morning second, with Nico Rosberg behind in third - the pair of them a second off Webber’s fastest time. Further back, Pastor Maldonado spun his Williams into the gravel, just managing to avoid the barriers but ending his session early.
In Free Practice 2, Webber was still on top, but Lewis Hamilton closed the gap to Red Bull by finishing less than a tenth off his time. Sebastian Vettel was a further three tenths back, so the rivalry is hotting up. Fernando Alonso finished fifth, with teammate Felipe Massa in eighth, despite the latter skidding wide off track midway through, running through the gravel. Elsewhere, Jenson Button complained of the balance of his car, whilst Force India struggled for pace, finishing the day 17th and 19th.
