This is F1Minute - María de Villota in hospital following Marussia straight line test accident.
Test driver María de Villota was participating in her first straight line test with the Marussia team, after being confirmed in her role in March. The team were set to test out their first big upgrade to the car at the Duxford Airfield in Cambridge, but a serious accident occurred after the first shakedown.
Some eyewitnesses have suggested that María was returning to the makeshift pits set up by Marussia, and the car lurched into the back of a stationary transporter which had the tail-lift down at the rear. De Villota was taken to hospital where she was reported as regaining consciousness but so far there has been no word on the specific injuries.
A statement from the team said: “Since María’s arrival at the hospital at approximately 10:45 this morning, she has been receiving the best medical attention possible at the hospital, which is the region’s major trauma centre. María is conscious and medical assessments are ongoing... The team’s first priority at this time is María and her family.”
