Welcome to F1Minute for the 13th May 2011.
President of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo has spoken in an interview with CNN revealing that the team would be open to the idea of a new motorsport championship. He said: “At the end of 2012, the contracts of every single team with CVC will expire. So we have three alternatives - we renew with CVC, or we... create our own company. Just to run the races, the TV rights and so on. And third, to find a different partner. Bernie Ecclestone did a very good job but he has already sold out three times, so he doesn’t own the business anymore... it will be the teams’ decision.”
Di Montezemolo also talked of his drivers, confirming that both Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso are expected to remain with the team for the forseeable future. He said that Massa has a contract until the end of 2012, whilst of Alonso, he said: “He is one of the best drivers I have seen in my career, very strong in mind... but also very close to the team. So I want to have a long time Alonso.”
