You’re listening to F1Minute - Lotus team confident a win is in their future.
The Lotus F1 team have secured four podium positions so far this year, but none of them have been on the much-coveted top step. Romain Grosjean, who finished second at the last race in Canada, is hoping they can start looking for a victory as soon as this weekend in Valencia. He says: “If we have a strong weekend from the start then I think we are capable of fighting for a podium or even a win. We’ll see after qualifying where we are - hopefully we can get another good result.”
The team have admitted that qualifying is a key to their moving forward, with Technical Director James Allison saying: “We seem to have a car that is not among the very quickest in qualifying at the moment but has very good race pace. It’s not a bad combination, and we’d rather have it this way round than the other, but if we want to win races we are going to have to improve our qualifying performances.”
Meanwhile team boss Éric Boullier is having to defend Kimi Räikkönen’s yo-yo performances from media criticism, pointing out they have an entirely new driver lineup this year and are still working out the kinks.
