The Lotus F1 team released a stark statement today confirming that Genii Capital boss Gérard Lopez will be replacing Éric Boullier as team principal with immediate effect. He is set to combine his responsibilities as co-chairman of the board with running the day to day activities of the team.
The movements are aimed to strengthen the management structure, and bring Genii closer to the team. Lopez says very little about his appointment, and there is just a brief mention of the outgoing team principal, “We thank Éric for all his hard work over the past four years and we are confident we can continue to fight as one of the top teams in Formula One over the seasons ahead.”
Also contained within the announcement was confirmation that the new car will be unveiled at the first Bahrain test in February, although computer renders of the E22 were released today, to steal a little bit of thunder from the McLaren launch.
