The Lotus team have confirmed a new Official Business Partner in the form of Saxo Bank, a Danish company who have been involved in top-level cycling sponsorship for several years. Team Principal Éric Boullier says of the deal: “Saxo Bank are taking an exciting and proactive approach to this new partnership with Lotus F1 and we are looking forward to enjoying a long and fruitful relationship.”
And the founders of Saxo Bank have responded in kind, saying: “Our philosophy and ambitions resonate closely with Lotus, a team which has emerged as a genuine challenger in a sport which is dominated by bigger and more established players.” I think that’s a compliment, anyway.
The finances at Enstone have been under scrutiny for a long while, after Kimi Räikkönen revealed he had not been paid for his services at the team, and a potential deal with investors Quantum Motorsports has yet to be signed and sealed. However, Boullier is confident the future is bright for Lotus, he said: “I think the team is in good shape now definitely… at least for 2014 and a little bit beyond, the team can now stabilise.”
