Lewis Hamilton took pole position for the British Grand Prix, but he had to do the work twice after finding his first effort of Q3 was deleted due to exceeding the track limits. He managed to repeat the feat to take pole ahead of Rosberg and Verstappen.
Jenson Button dropped out in Q1, which was disappointing for the British driver in front of his home fans. For a brief moment, the team scrambled their driver back in the car as if he was able to participate in Q2, perhaps because more qualifying times were being deleted, but in the end it was 17th place for Jenson.
Marcus Ericsson couldn’t take part in qualifying after a huge crash in final practice, he hit the barriers and spun around with significant force. After being looked at in the medical centre, he was also taken to hospital for further checks, and released. The FIA gave him permission to race after medical examination, and setting sensible times during practice.
