This is F1Minute - Lewis Hamilton wows the crowds in Indian demonstration.
Lewis Hamilton took to the streets of Bangalore today to give the crowds an F1 demo ahead of the Indian Grand Prix in October. Hamilton drove the MP4-23 to the delight of the 40,000 fans who were in attendance.
Talking about his experience, Hamilton said: “I’ve visited India many times over the last couple of years and it’s never been more exciting to be here than now. The inaugural Indian GP is only weeks away and you can really feel the growing passion of the people and the excitement levels continuing to build.”
The new track in India has not yet been homologated by the FIA, but Charlie Whiting has said that it exceeds expectations, so work is well on the way to completion. There are some concerns in the paddock, however, after Formula One was not given tax exemptions.
Classified as entertainment, rather than a sport, there were concerns that customs duties could be enormous, but the race organisers have offered to pay any duties required. Martin Whitmarsh, of McLaren, is still concerned about the driver’s personal taxes though.
