This is F1Minute - Lewis Hamilton leads McLaren 1-2 in Monza qualifying.
The sun continued to shine in Italy as qualifying for tomorrow’s Grand Prix got underway. Nico Hülkenberg only managed to complete two laps before his Force India ground to a halt with gearbox trouble - he was thus the big name driver dropping out in Q1, allowing Jean-Éric Vergne through to the second session for the second week in a row.
It was Mark Webber that was the surprise faller in Q2, only managing to secure 11th place and missing out on the top ten shootout. Teammate Sebastian Vettel got through and went on to take sixth place. Lewis Hamilton never looked troubled for pole position, whilst Jenson Button joined him at the top. Felipe Massa did a great job to finish the day third - outqualifying Fernando Alonso for the first time this year, albeit because Alonso had yet more car trouble.
Paul di Resta secured fourth place, but faces a five place grid drop for a change of gearbox. Pastor Maldonado also has two five place drops to take, and qualifying 12th will see him start from the rear of the grid.
