Welcome to F1Minute - Kobayashi and Pérez confirmed at Sauber for 2012.
Sauber drivers Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Pérez have extended their contracts with the team, with a secure race seat until the end of 2012. Reserve driver Esteban Gutièrrez has also signed a contract extension.
So far this year, Kobayashi has regularly finished in the points, with a high point of fifth place in Monaco. Pérez has had a difficult start to his debut season, with a sizeable accident in the principality that left him unwell and missing the next race in Canada. His best finish is 7th so far, but he has shown he can handle the car well, and take the pressure of running a different strategy to the rest of the field.
He said: “Of course it is very good to have continuity and this way I can intensively prepare with my race engineer for what will be my second Formula One season. But for now I’m concentrating on finishing this season on a high.”
Kobayashi added: “In 2010 we had a very difficult season and some tough times. We managed to overcome this because we are a strong team.”
