The soon-to-be spare seat at Red Bull has been the sole focus of the Formula One driver market so far this year, with the potential racers narrowed down to current Lotus driver Kimi Räikkönen or Toro Rosso star Daniel Ricciardo. Now it looks as though the shortlist could be down to just one name, as the BBC reports that Räikkönen will not be driving for Red Bull any time soon.
Kimi’s manager Steve Robertson has told the BBC that talks have broken down with the current championship leaders. He said: “We haven’t spoken for a little while and it’s clear Kimi won’t be driving for Red Bull in 2014.” He also added: “Kimi’s a free agent. He still has options out there. There’s a lot of things happening behind the scenes and I’m pretty confident he will be in F1 next year.”
That leaves Daniel Ricciardo firmly in the frame for the Red Bull seat, something which German newspaper Bild reported was a done deal over the weekend. There’s no official word from the team, though, with a Red Bull spokesperson saying: “We don’t have anything to announce at present but will advise when we do.”
