Renault unveiled their full 2016 F1 line-up during a launch in Paris today, confirming Kevin Magnussen alongside Jolyon Palmer for the upcoming season, with Esteban Ocon as reserve driver. The covers were pulled off Renault’s car, showcased in a black livery with yellow accents, but the team did suggest it wasn’t the finished version of the RS16.
The rebranding continued with the new official team name of Renault Sport Formula 1 Team, and CEO of Renault Carlos Ghosn said: “The team has been given the goal to be on the podium within three years.” New racing director Frederic Vasseur said: “We have to push like hell now on the reliability, the chassis, the engine, the mechanics. We know the situation.”
Meanwhile, Kevin Magnussen is grateful for the racing seat reprieve, saying: “Two years out would have been the end. If you’re world champion, you might be able to come back but in my position, it would have been the end. This was make or break, luckily, I made it.”
