This is F1Minute - Karun Chandhok to replace Jarno Trulli in Germany.
Team Lotus have confirmed today that reserve driver Karun Chandhok will make the step up to drive for them during the race in Germany this weekend. Chandhok has previously driven for Hispania Racing in 2010, but was replaced mid-season. He has also participated in a couple of Friday practice sessions for Lotus already this year, but he’s now in line to drive Trulli’s car at the Nürburgring.
He says: “Ever since I first joined the team I have been looking forward to this opportunity and I am determined to do my best to repay their faith in me and help the team progress, this season and for many to come. I am approaching the weekend in a very realistic frame of my mind.”
Jarno Trulli has offered his support to Chandhok, and praises the team for their spirit in helping young drivers. He has struggled with the car so far this year, being particularly vocal about issues with the power steering. The team are keen to ensure Chandhok’s substitution is not seen as kicking Trulli out completely, with boss Tony Fernandes confirming they are in contract talks with the Italian.
