This is F1Minute - Jenson Button signs McLaren contract extension.

McLaren have confirmed today that British driver Jenson Button has signed with the team for a contract extension, covering more than one year. The deal means he will partner Lewis Hamilton for another few years, as Lewis signed a five year deal back in 2008.

Talking of the news, Jenson Button says: “I’ve never felt more at home at a team than I do at McLaren. I’ve won four of the greatest races of my life here, I’m currently lying second in the drivers’ world championship, and I feel that I’m driving better than ever. You can only achieve that with the right level of support.”

Team principal Martin Whitmarsh added: “Jenson is a great driver and a great guy. In fact, I can safely say that he’s one of the most capable and respected drivers we’ve ever had, and I’m therefore absolutely delighted that he’ll continue to work with us into the future.”

Looking ahead to the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend, Button is confident the team can do well, despite the likelihood that the championship will be over. He says: “On paper, I think it’s a circuit that will suit the Red Bulls, particularly in the high-speed sweeps that make up the first sector, but I don’t think people should underestimate our package.”
