You’re listening to F1Minute - HRT sideline Liuzzi for Karthikeyan ahead of Indian GP.
We already knew that Narain Karthikeyan would be behind the wheel of an HRT car when the Indian Grand Prix rolled around but now it has been confirmed that he’ll be taking Tonio Liuzzi’s place for the weekend’s events.
Karthikeyan made his last appearance in a race for the team at the European GP back in June and has been participating in some Friday practice sessions over the last few weeks to get back into the swing of things.
Talking about the driver swap, team principal Colin Kolles says: “I have asked Tonio Liuzzi to step aside for the Indian GP in order to allow driving programs with Ricciardo and Karthikeyan to be completed. I have to thank Tonio for his professional approach and attitude. After the positive performance the team had in Korea, I hope that we will keep on that line in India.”
For his part, Karthikeyan can’t wait to get to his home race, saying: “There is a huge buzz around the Grand Prix already and I’m sure that it’ll be a resounding success that will motivate more youngsters towards the sport and give us the future F1 drivers.”
