Lewis Hamilton snatched the lead from Nico Rosberg off the line, as both Rosberg and Valtteri Bottas got bogged down at the start. Nico Hülkenberg was given a five second penalty for forcing Kevin Magnussen off track, the McLaren driver then making contact with Adrian Sutil.
Rosberg was following Hamilton and keeping tabs on the race leader until about halfway through when his car developed an ERS problem. As the laps stacked up, the problems on the Mercedes grew, until the point the team were ready to retire the car. Rosberg requested to be allowed to cross the line and finish the race, which he did but out of the points . Hamilton won, securing himself the championship. The two Williams drivers finished on the podium, Massa ahead of Bottas who had recovered from the poor start.
Red Bull also had to recover from a pit lane start, and Daniel Ricciardo did a great job to finish fourth. Pastor Maldonado had a fiery exit from the race when his Lotus caught fire, and Daniil Kvyat and Kamui Kobayashi also failed to see the chequered flag.
