The race at Hockenheim began with Nico Rosberg on pole position but the German didn’t put on a good show for his fans at the start, getting swamped off the grid and dropping back to fourth. He later took the fight to the Red Bulls that had gotten ahead of him, participating in a close tussle with Max Verstappen that resulted in the Red Bull running off track. Rosberg was handed a five second penalty for that one, and ended up finishing in fourth place.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton zipped into a comfortable lead off the start line, never looking back to take the victory and increase his championship lead going into the summer break.
There were two retirements during the relatively drama free race, with Felipe Massa picking up some damage after a small collision with Jolyon Palmer at the start, and Felipe Nasr suffering a power unit failure. Jenson Button finished in the top ten for McLaren, whilst Force India picked up a handy double points finish.
