Giorgio Ascanelli left the Toro Rosso team midway through the 2012 season, and has now found himself a new role with F1 suppliers Brembo brakes. Formerly technical director at the Scuderia, Ascanelli now joins the Italian brake company who supply many of the F1 teams with their brakes, and his role is to head up the Advanced Research and Technical Development departments.
In a press statement from the company, Brembo talk of the need to bring a breath of fresh air to their development teams, saying: “Brembo will need to come up with radically innovative projects to ensure that the engineering side evolves in line with the company’s best traditions, while also responding to the new demands of the automotive industry.”
Coincidentally, the day Ascanelli’s new role was announced, his old team Toro Rosso launched their brand new car for the 2013 season, featuring Brembo S.p.A pads and discs, and calipers as well. The association between Ascanelli and his former employees will continue, then, however tangentially.
