The Force India team have confirmed they will not participate in the first pre-season test in Jerez, after deciding it would be better to wait to hit the ground running in Barcelona instead.
The team had already revealed they wouldn’t be bringing the new car to Jerez, instead running last year’s machinery to gather whatever data is possible. At the time, technical director Andrew Green said: “The trouble with Jerez and tyres is that because of the unique tarmac, learning about the tyres is really difficult. So we don’t think we’ll do that much there.”
Add to that the fact Jerez isn’t on the calendar whilst Barcelona is, it’s understandable Force India will wait for the opportune moment to launch the car. They tweeted: “We have chosen not to run the old car in Jerez. The learning opportunities would have been limited so the focus is now on Barcelona.”
