GP2 driver James Calado has been signed to the Force India team as a third driver for the remainder of this season, after participating in the young driver test with the team in July. The British driver is currently racing in the GP2 series with the ART Grand Prix team, and has won a race with several other podium visits. He’ll complete the season with ART alongside his F1 duties, which will include driving in some of the Free Practice sessions.
His first scheduled Friday appearance will be this weekend in Italy, with team owner Vijay Mallya saying: “James will take part in the opening session on Friday. He’ll also run in practice at several other races this year. It’s always useful to get another driver’s feedback on the car and it will help us evaluate James.”
Mallya is also looking forward to the rest of this weekend’s action, saying: “Like Spa, the track suits us, so we hope to be able to capitalise on that. But, as I’ve always said, my direction for the technical team has been to develop a car that is competitive on all tracks...”
