Mexican driver Sergio Pérez will join the Force India squad in 2014, with a multi-year deal giving him the lifeline he needed after being dropped from McLaren. Pérez was with McLaren for just one season, and was left shocked and disappointed when they relieved him of his contract.
Now Sergio will join Nico Hülkenberg at Force India for next season, and he says: “It’s great to announce my new team. Coming here was always my first choice and I’m really happy everything has now been confirmed.” We assume he means his first choice after being dumped from McLaren.
Nevertheless, Force India are happy to welcome him with open arms, team principal Vijay Mallya says: “He brings a healthy mix of youth and experience and I’ve been very impressed with his recent performances. He already has several podium finishes to his name and being chosen by McLaren last year was a clear indication that he is a driver to watch for the future.” Mallya doesn’t mention where being fired by McLaren factors into things, but there you go.
