The first week of Barcelona testing has come to a close, four days of teams trying out the new ultrasoft tyres, testing various wings and setups, and giving their new driver lineups a run.
Mercedes were absolutely incredible, completing 675 laps over four days across two drivers – in fact they had to switch up their programme so that Hamilton and Rosberg shared duties each day, as a full day’s running was too much like hard work!
McLaren appeared to have better reliability than this time last year, until the final day when a coolant leak kept them in the garage for all bar three installation laps. Renault also had a troublesome week but new team Haas appeared to have things in order, finishing more laps across the four days than McLaren did.
Rio Haryanto had a difficult start for Manor, spinning on his first day and crashing into the barriers on his second, but better to get that out the way now than in Australia. The times were all over the place as teams were running various programs but Ferrari did top three of the four days, with Force India on top for the other.
