Welcome to F1Minute - Ferrari confirm departure of Aldo Costa.
Ferrari have confirmed that Aldo Costa has left the team with a mutual agreement to end his contract. In May, Costa announced he was taking a step back from his technical director position and the day to day running of the team. He was to be given a new position within the company. The team reorganised the department with Corrado Lanzone and Luca Marmorini sharing technical reponsibilities. Now Costa has gone, there’s no word from him on his plans as yet, but he won’t be able to join another team until the end of the year.
Meanwhile, McLaren are having to quash rumours that Martin Whitmarsh may be leaving the team, after their performance has taken a bit of a downturn in the last few races. Managing Director Jonathan Neale has confirmed there is no need for any blame, though, saying: “In terms of a succession plan, that’s not something we are either going to publish or that we need to have ready in case there’s a sudden exit. We want Martin, Lewis and Jenson here for the long term.”
