The long-awaited announcement has finally arrived, and Sebastian Vettel will line up alongside Kimi Räikkönen for the Scuderia Ferrari team in 2015. It was anticipated this would be the case when Vettel confirmed his departure from Red Bull a few weeks ago, but the Italian squad have taken until now to reveal their plans.
Räikkönen is reportedly looking forward to having Vettel as a teammate, as the pair are friends off track as well as rivals on track. Vettel is keen to get going at Ferrari, having watched his idol Michael Schumacher racing there while Sebastian was growing up.
This all means that Fernando Alonso bids farewell to the team he said he would end his F1 career with, and he pays quite an emotional tribute to them and their passionate fans for supporting him through five years of highs and lows. He said: “It was a difficult decision to take but a carefully considered one… I have always been lucky enough to make my own decisions about my future, and I have that possibility now too.”
