This is F1Minute - Fernando Alonso takes surprise win at British Grand Prix.
The rain held off for the entire race at Silverstone today, but it had watered the track enough to cause confusion at the start. The grid and half the circuit was dry, whilst the other half was wet, wet enough for most drivers to start on intermediate tyres. Mark Webber lost P1 at the start, with Sebastian Vettel taking his usual position at the front.
However, a bungled pit stop held Vettel up, allowing Fernando Alonso into the lead instead. The Spaniard drove a strong race to keep the win, with Webber and Vettel joining him on the podium.
Further back, Jenson Button was in a good position, but he also suffered in the pitlane when a wheel nut did not go on. He ground to a halt at the pit exit with a wheel hanging off. Lewis Hamilton made a great start from tenth, and was running fourth. He was told to back off to save fuel but managed to keep the position, despite a last lap tussle with Felipe Massa.
Along with Button, the other retirements were both Lotus cars, Kamui Kobayashi and Sébastien Buemi.
