Ferrari have confirmed they’ve extended Fernando Alonso’s contract until 2016, after being very impressed with his performance so far. His original contract was due to run out at the end of next year, but Alonso has been granted an extra four years with the Italian team.
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo said: “It is a great pleasure to have renewed our agreement with a driver who has always demonstrated a winning mentality, even in the most difficult circumstances.” He added that he hopes together they can bring the team some wins very soon.
For his part, Alonso is already looking ahead, saying: “I have been lucky to arrive here last year and feel at home from day one... I am happy and privileged, and maybe in 2017 we will have another contract. I will see if I am not too old and if Ferrari still want me.”
The two-times world champion has already stated that he wishes to end his career with Ferrari, although, it’s worth pointing out that Michael Schumacher said that too.
