Welcome to F1Minute - Double DRS remains with single activation point.
The double DRS zones seen at the Canadian Grand Prix will be in action at the upcoming European race in Valencia as well, with the single point of activation remaining in force. The change in DRS regulations was trialled in Montreal, but came under fire from fans who were not convinced the one activation zone was fair.
Before the race itself, Jenson Button also spoke out about the concept, saying: “I am not sure how the DRS is going to work here, because on the first DRS zone it should be easy to overtake. Then... you can DRS again so you pull away from the guy you have overtaken - and they cannot fight back. It’s not like I thought it was going to be... It is going to help overtaking but I don’t think it is going to help the racing.”
Of course, Button went on to win the Canadian Grand Prix, helped out by DRS, so he may have changed his mind on that front, but the point still remains. The FIA have decided to remain with the single detection zone, however they have moved the activation area away from the start/finish straight.
