Welcome to F1Minute - Directors on the move at HRT and Lotus.
The Lotus F1 Team today confirmed that their deputy Technical Director - Naoki Tokunaga - will be leaving the racing outfit to move over to Renault Sport - becoming their technical director in a step up. He will be specifically overseeing the new engines for the future regulation changes, whilst behind him, the deputy role will remain empty.
Current Technical Director at Lotus, James Allison, said: “While we are sad on a personal level to see Naoki leave Enstone, we believe this move will be overall positive for Renault Sport F1’s customers. We would like to thank Naoki for the tremendous contribution he has made to our team during the 12 years he has been with us.”
HRT are also facing a change of directors, with Toni Cuquerella coming in as their Technical Director, starting immediately. He replaces Geoff Willis, who left the position back in September last year, and Toni makes the step up from Chief Race and Test Engineer. He says: “My priority is to solve the current car’s problems to then develop it to its maximum potential.”
