The FIA have confirmed the 20th June as the date for the International Tribunal’s gathering to examine the Mercedes and Pirelli tyre test that has caused such a stir in the F1 paddock. Mercedes have previously said they welcome the opportunity to explain why the three-day test that immediately followed the Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona is not illegal.
Pirelli have also been asked to appear at the hearing, with the FIA’s Prosecuting Body notifying charges against both the Mercedes team and F1’s tyre supplier.
Meanwhile, Ferrari have escaped any charges against themselves, with their Bahrain test being completed with a 2011 car, rather than the 2013 chassis that Mercedes used. President Luca di Montezemolo said: “Let’s hope Formula One can maintain its professionalism and we have faith that those who attempt to circumvent the regulations are pursued and prosecuted, or rather more prosecuted than pursued.”
