Welcome to F1Minute - Daniel Ricciardo to drive for HRT from Britain onwards.
Toro Rosso reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo has been confirmed as a driver for HRT from the next race onwards, replacing Narain Karthikeyan. The Australian driver had been rumoured as a replacement for either of the Toro Rosso drivers, Sébastien Buemi or Jaime Alguersuari, but both of them have improved their performances to stave off the threat of being dropped.
With Ricciardo performing well in Friday testing, Red Bull have negotiated this deal with HRT so they can see how he does in the stresses of a full race. The Hispania team have not responded to the confirmation, but reports suggest that Ricciardo will remain with the team until the end of the season, although he won’t be racing at the Indian Grand Prix. It’s likely that Karthikeyan could return for his home race.
It was also revealed today that Team Principal of HRT Colin Kolles will be stepping back from running the team with owner José Ramón Carabante to become more involved, although there’s no official word from the team on that either.
