Ongoing speculation over whether one of the Toro Rosso drivers could replace the outgoing Mark Webber at Red Bull next year has taken another step up, as Daniel Ricciardo has been given a chance to drive the RB9 at the Silverstone test this week.
The team had initially confirmed their young drivers, but have now revised their line-up with more experienced names. Both Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel will be present at the test, meaning Ricciardo will be driving the same car on the same track as those he is trying to rival. Daniel will also be in action for Toro Rosso, as will teammate Jean-Éric Vergne, who has not been selected to drive in the Red Bull at this point.
Meanwhile, Marussia have also tweaked their test lineup to include current racers Max Chilton and Jules Bianchi, Force India will have both their drivers running, as will Caterham.
And finally, those feeling sorry for Mercedes missing out on this action can relax. The team, who are banned from the test after being found guilty of testing in secret with Pirelli earlier this year, will be allowed tyre data from the test the same as every other team on the grid.
