With Jean-Éric Vergne confirming his split from Toro Rosso, the team have taken the opportunity to confirm who will be joining Max Verstappen for the 2015 season. Carlos Sainz Jr had been a name in the frame over the last couple of weeks, and the young Spaniard has been announced as a Toro Rosso driver for next season.

He’s tested with Red Bull and Toro Rosso, and most recently been driving in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, winning the championship this year.

Carlos says: “Ever since I have been part of Red Bull’s Young Driver Programme, this has been my aim… I tested for a day with Toro Rosso last year and I liked the atmosphere in the team. In the next few months I will be working hard on my preparation, ready to get in the cockpit in Jerez for the first test of next year.”

The announcement leaves just one Mercedes seat unconfirmed, and two McLaren drives, plus whatever happens with Caterham and Marussia for next year.
