Welcome to F1Minute - Barrichello: “I belong in Formula One”
Brazilian driver Rubens Barrichello has spoken about his future within Formula One, and said that although he doesn’t yet know if he’ll have a seat with Williams next year, he’s hoping to find out soon. He said: “The fans need to know. Williams told me they would like to make a decision before Brazil, so I hope at least that is a positive.”
He went on to say that he still feels comfortable in F1, despite having been driving for 19 years, adding: “All I want to say is that I belong here, and I have never been as quick as I am right now, and I want to be driving next year. But if destiny turns it into a way that is not for me, then I will be home.”
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Williams’ new chief operations engineer Mark Gillan has been speaking of his confidence in the team, and their ability to recover from what has turned out to be one of their worst seasons ever.
For next season, he said: “We aim to make a good jump in terms of points. At the moment we are on the cusp of getting into Q3 or not, it’s very difficult. By the end of the season that has to be the goal.”
