Welcome to F1Minute - Bahrain Grand Prix organisers cancel the race.
Reactions have been pouring forth regarding the FIA’s decision to reinstate the Bahrain Grand Prix and the feeling from teams, drivers and fans has mostly been negative. This has not passed the organisers of the Grand Prix by.
Bahrain have officially confirmed they will not host the race this year, with circuit chairman Zayed R Alzayani saying: “Whilst Bahrain would have been delighted to see the Grand Prix progress on October 30th, in line with the WMSC’s decision, it has been made clear that this fixture cannot progress and we fully respect that decision... Bahrain has absolutely no desire to see a race which would further extend the calendar season and detract from the enjoyment of F1 for either drivers, teams or supporters.”
Although they do intend to return to their season opening slot in 2012, he added: “We want our role in F1 to continue to be as positive and constructive as it has always been, therefore, in the best interest of the sport, we will not pursue the rescheduling of a race this season.”
