This is F1Minute for the 30th September 2009.
Ferrari have finally confirmed that Alonso will be joining them from next year, for a three year deal. The Spaniard said he had always planned on driving for Ferrari from 2011, but they brought the deal forward by a year. Räikkönen will be leaving the team and he says: “With common consent, we have agreed to terminate the contract binding me to Ferrari to the end of 2010, one year ahead of schedule. I am very sad to be leaving a team with which I have spent three fantastic years, during which time I won plenty of races.” Ferrari in turn thank the Finn, particularly for helping them win the driver’s title.
It seems natural that Kimi will return to McLaren, but they have said they haven’t made a decision on their second driver yet.
So, it’s Alonso to Ferrari, and the team say: “We are very proud to welcome another winning driver, who has demonstrated his amazing talent by winning two world championships in his career to date.” It seems flattery will get you everywhere.
That’s all for today, please join me tomorrow for another F1Minute.
