This is F1Minute for the 28th August 2009.
Free Practice day today and the first session was wet. Trulli was fastest, but the session wasn’t particularly useful. Notably, Vettel and Hamilton didn’t set a lap time at all - McLaren said they were saving tyres, Red Bull were saving engines. Christian Horner confirmed they would be trimming Friday mileage for Vettel, but he is confident they can avoid any penalty this season.
The second session was more interesting, with dry running throughout. Hamilton was fastest, whilst Badoer continued to struggle and Räikkönen and Alguersuari broke down right at the end. At this stage, qualifying is impossible to predict.
Elsewhere, Abu Dhabi has confirmed that their race will start at 5pm, at the request of FOM. They are calling it a day-night grand prix and have promised floodlighting to ease the transition from sunlight to darkness. I have a bad feeling about this.
That’s all for now, I’ll be back tomorrow with another F1Minute.
