This is F1Minute and it’s the 24th April 2009.
Hamilton led the way in Free Practice 1 this morning in Bahrain, giving McLaren something to smile about at least. It was an odd session though, that saw the BMW boys second and third – something unusual to see on a Friday. Rosberg took over the lead in the afternoon, showing that his Free Practice performance is still on top form.
There was no sign of a sandstorm, except for some strong winds in the morning, but they died down gradually as time wore on. The main problem for the drivers out there seemed to be the heat and the effect it has on the tyres, plus the vast majority of the cars spent some time off track throughout the day.
Meanwhile, McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh has confirmed that the team are cooperating with the FIA as best they can, and that he has written a letter of apology to Max Mosley. He won’t comment on the letter itself, though, before the hearing next week.
That’s all for today, please join me again tomorrow for another F1Minute.
