Welcome to F1Minute for the 23rd May 2009.
Alonso led the way in Free Practice 3 this morning, but today it was all about qualifying. Hamilton, who has had a good showing throughout this Monaco weekend so far, found himself in the barriers in the first session, with a wrecked car. Quali 1 was red flagged for a few minutes for debris to be cleared, and a bitterly disappointed Lewis starts 16th on the grid tomorrow. However, the other surprise is that beneath him, two Toyotas and two BMWs couldn’t get out of the first session either – Glock starts from the very back of the grid.
The rest of qualifying played out as you would expect, although Ferrari were much improved. Button took pole position, with a last second fast lap, and Kimi lines up on the grid next to him. Massa starts fifth, with Kovalainen down in 7th.
In other news, USF1 have confirmed they lodged their entry for 2010, which follows Campos Racing who have already done so.
That’s it for today, I’ll be back tomorrow with another F1Minute.
