It’s the 23rd August 2009 and this is F1Minute.
He did it! Barrichello took his first win of the year, and his first victory since 2004, in a fantastic drive from third on the grid. He jumped the McLaren’s in various pit stop manoeuvres, but he also drove his heart out and put his foot down when it really mattered. Everyone in the pit lane lined up to cheer him on as he made his way from the car to the podium. Hamilton led the way for a lot of the race but lost time after his mechanics were not ready for a change of tyres, he took second, whilst Räikkönen joined the pair on the podium.
The retirees included Buemi with brake failure, Vettel with his second engine meltdown of the weekend, and Nakajima, who suffered a massive puncture, but continued on until the last lap, when he retired with an unspecified gearbox issue. Very odd. Badoer was predictably last, whilst Grosjean seemed to struggle a little bit but ultimately didn’t embarrass himself.
That’s all for today, please join me again tomorrow for another F1Minute.
