This is F1Minute and it’s the 22nd August 2009.
Vettel had a slight problem in the morning when the engine in his Red Bull gave up and he sprayed oil all over the track. Free Practice was slightly truncated, but that made qualifying even more interesting.
Trulli and Nakajima were out in the first session, with Badoer predictably last. Fisichella just missed out getting into Q2, whilst Sutil managed to qualify 12th. Heidfeld was a couple of hundredths of a second off making it into the top ten, whilst teammate Kubica could only qualify tenth after the final session was over.
Kovalainen was on a superb lap but made a small mistake to finish second. He’s not too worried though, as teammate Hamilton made pole position with much less fuel on board. Barrichello is the one to watch, though, starting third and relatively heavy.
Two stories I must mention, but don’t have time to do justice to, Williams have said they are reviewing their engine deal with Toyota, whilst the Japanese team may not be keen on keeping Trulli for next year.
That’s all for now, I’ll be back tomorrow for another F1Minute.
