Welcome to F1Minute, it’s the 20th August.
Chad Hurley, the co-founder of YouTube, has confirmed that he will be investing in the new USF1 team. It’s not a sponsorship deal for the video sharing site, but Hurley says: “Getting in on the ground floor of a project of this size and scope is a tremendous opportunity, and I look forward to helping shape the US F1 vision and corporate strategy for years to come.” The details of the deal are not public, obviously, but Hurley is the primary investor of the team.
Elsewhere, the BMW drivers have been talking about their team’s decision to quit, and both say it came as a surprise to them. Kubica says: “I think there are a few opportunities, but everyone was on holiday so we will start working. I am pretty confident that I will find the right place to be next year.” Heidfeld isn’t too worried either: “I feel as confident as before. It was not certain that I would be with BMW next year, so I was already in talks with other teams before the decision was made public.”
That’s all for now, I’ll be back tomorrow with another F1Minute.
