Today is the 18th March 2009, and this is F1Minute.
Finally, McLaren have topped the timesheets in testing, although Williams were the only other car out on track. Their performance seemed improved, though, with Kovalainen setting a time just a few tenths off Button’s fastest yesterday.
Meanwhile, we have plenty of reaction to the FIA regulation changes announced yesterday. Button has said although there is a sound principal behind the wins rather than points system, he’s worried the public will not be able to follow it. He added: “For sure it's an incentive to always go for the win, but it seems risky too - after nine races, we could find ourselves with a driver that has already won the title.”
The FIA also announced a £30 million optional budget cap from 2010, which has caused quite a controversy. Flavio Briatore has said it was a shock, and that it goes against his vision of the principals of F1 to have cars built to different regulations.
That’s it for today, I’ll be back tomorrow with another F1Minute.
