It’s the 17th October 2009 and this is F1Minute.
Free Practice 3 was delayed by 45 minutes before it got underway due to the adverse weather conditions. The rain was torrential, there was thunder and lightning, and the medical helicopter couldn’t take off. When the action did get underway, there was only time for 15 minutes, and we only saw 13 of those, as Grosjean crashed out causing a red flag that effectively ended the session.
Qualifying was actually a similar story. Fisichella stalled in Q1, bringing out a red flag. Both McLarens and Vettel were out in the first session. In Q2, it was Liuzzi who crashed and caused a red flag and this time, they decided not to restart due to the weather conditions for well over an hour. We sat patiently and waiting, only to see Button out in Q2.
Finally, Q3 was completed without a single red flag. P1 changed hands several times but it was Barrichello who made it stick. He starts his home Grand Prix from pole position. The crowd were ecstatic.
That’s all for now, I’ll be back tomorrow with another F1Minute.
