Welcome to F1Minute, today is the 11th June 2008.
Ex-Toyota team principal Ove Andersson has died today, aged 70. He was killed this morning whilst taking part in a classic rally in South Africa. Tadashi Yamashina, chairman of Toyota Motorsport has paid his respects , saying: “Everyone at Toyota is extremely shocked and truly saddened at this terrible news. Ove was an inspiration to our team and to many in motorsport.”
Elsewhere, there are rumours that two teams are giving up on their car for 2008. Alonso is apparently advising Renault that their resources are better spent on developing the 2009 car instead of spending too much time on this year, whilst Honda have reportedly already made that decision.
Finally today, McLaren have launched a new initiative called GoMotorsport with the Motoring Sport Association, which is designed to encourage new people to get involved, both watching and taking part in it. The website is GoMotorsport.net and is aimed at new and potential fans.
That’s all for today, please join me again tomorrow for another F1Minute.
