This is F1Minute and it’s the 9th May 2009.
Jenson Button pipped Vettel and Barrichello to pole position today in Barcelona, but the real story of the day lay with Ferrari. The pair of them topped the Free Practice 3 timesheets making it a Ferrari 1-2 with Massa ahead.
Come qualifying, then, and Räikkönen was out in the first session. Not exactly improved performance, but he did admit fault, saying that the decision not to go out and attempt a final fast lap was his, and that’s why he will be starting 16th on the grid. Massa, meanwhile, managed to make it up to fourth, and he has a respectable fuel load, so he’ll be looking to pick up his first points tomorrow.
Other notable casualties of the day include Kovalainen, who was also out in the first session, starting 18th, and Hamilton who made it through to Q2 but no further, and starts 14th. Kubica just managed to get through to Q3 but starts 10th, whilst Alonso went light for a home crowd pole but ended up 8th.
That’s it for today, please join me again tomorrow for another F1Minute.
