It’s the 9th March 2009 and this is F1Minute.
Toro Rosso have now launched their 2009 challenger, becoming the last team to do so. The STR4 was revealed in Barcelona, at the start of the four day test, with Bourdais and Buemi uncovering the new car. Technical Director Giorgio Ascanelli made a point of saying that they haven’t just launched a rebadged RB5, and that running a Ferrari engine rather than the Renault of Red Bull means it is significantly different. On the inside at least.
Meanwhile the test got underway, with Heidfeld posting the fastest time. There was a light shower in the morning but that dried up quickly, and all of the teams completed over 80 laps each. For a large portion of the day Button was fastest in the Brawn… that just sounds weird. Button fell to fourth by the end of the day, however, behind Räikkönen and Trulli. Notably McLaren were last, and with all ten teams represented, the gap was more than two seconds.
That’s it for today, please join me again tomorrow for another F1Minute.
