Hello and welcome to F1Minute, it’s the 4th April 2009.

Button has taken his second consecutive pole position, beating Jarno Trulli and Sebastian Vettel to the front of the Malaysia grid. Vettel takes a 10 place drop though, after events in Australia. The big surprise of the day was Felipe Massa, who dropped out in the first session of qualifying. Ferrari had both drivers complete a flying lap, and then returned to the garage, assuming they had done enough. Unfortunately, for Massa, it wasn’t, and he gradually slipped down the order until he was 16th and out of it. Kimi finished 14th and scraped through to the next session. The team say they hadn’t expected the track speeds to pick up so much, but it seems like they just misjudged the situation.

Meanwhile, Alonso finished tenth, although is bumped up the order by other penalties. He is feeling better and says the ear infection is no excuse, but believes the team need to improve a lot if they are going to have any chance at fighting for the title.

That’s it for today, I’ll be back tomorrow with another F1Minute.
