This is F1Minute and it’s the 2nd October 2009.
It was such a quiet day in F1 today, that really this could be F1 ten seconds. Free Practice 1 started out wet but got drier as the session wore on. All drivers set a time, with Kovalainen fastest, but some found they wore out their tyres quite quickly as the conditions were so changeable. In the afternoon, it was rainy and wet, so it was a full hour before any of the drivers left the pit lane, and even then, most of them only completed five or six laps. Sutil ended the day on top, but it was the most unrepresentative couple of sessions we’ve seen all year.
The only real thing of note was that Timo Glock had a high temperature and was advised to get some rest, so he took the day off. Reserve driver Kamui Kobayashi was drafted in to drive the few laps Toyota completed today. Cue immediate speculation that the team only did it to get a Japanese driver in the Japanese car in Japan. You be the judge.
That’s all for now, I’ll be back tomorrow with another F1Minute.
